It’s Easy Being Green

Meeting a Sustainable Meetings Initiative

The Challenge:
The North Face made a company-wide commitment to protect natural resources while supporting local and global communities. Now it was time to deliver on that promise at the annual Sales Meeting.

The Solution:
Henry V’s Sustainability Coordinator collaborated with the client, venue and local community to significantly reduce the event’s environmental impact via three key areas:

  • Consumables – beverages served from large containers into guest-brought receptacles; condiments served in bulk, rather than individual packets; onsite recycling stations; additional vendors contracted for grease and compost recycling
  • Event Production – digital scenery projected onto a lightweight, custom screen made of recycled water bottles; LED and low-wattage equipment for room and stage lighting
  • Communication – Venue to request onsite recycling stations and locally-sourced foods; Guests to encourage shorter showers, linen re-use, reduced power consumption, carpooling; Executives to model, encourage and reward employee compliance throughout

The Results:

  • 3,000 water bottles NOT discarded (like last year)
  • 66% reduction of stage lighting power consumption
  • 400 outdoor enthusiasts practicing what they preach
